Shares in Barclays PLC (LSE:BARC), Melrose Industries PLC (LSE:MRO, OTC:MLSPF) and Rolls-Royce Holdings PLC (LSE:RR.) rocketed higher on Thursday as London equities soared following news of a US tariff pause.
Lender Barclays topped the FTSE 100 leaderboard with a 15.4% leap in early trading followed by aerospace supplier Melrose with 11.5%, while aircraft engine maker Rolls was up 8.2%.
A group of US-focused tech investors were also surging across London's blue-chips and mid-cap FTSE 250, with Bridgepoint Group PLC (LSE:BPT) topping the lot with a 17% jump.
Allianz Technology Trust PLC (LSE:ATT), Polar Capital Technology Trust PLC (LSE:PCT) and Scottish Mortgage Investment Trust PLC (LSE:SMT) each gained between 10% and 13%.
They were playing catch-up following a mega rally for New York's Nasdaq overnight, with gains of 15% for Apple, 10% for Microsoft, 19% for Nvidia, 14% for Meta and 22% for Tesla, many of which feature in the tech funds' portfolios.
Other big risers in Lodon included retailer Watches of Switzerland Group PLC (LSE:WOSG), ticked up 15%, while cruise operator Carnival PLC (LSE:CCL) sailed 14% higher, and sportswear chain JD Sports Fashion PLC (LSE:JD.) leapt 8.3%.
