FireFly Metals Ltd is stepping up exploration at its Green Bay Copper and Gold Project in Newfoundland, Canada.
The company is running a major drilling campaign and says it’s already halfway through a planned 130,000-metre program aimed at growing its resource.
Large copper and gold resource
Green Bay holds a sizeable copper and gold deposit. Right now, the site has about 1.2 million tonnes of metal based on current drilling. This includes 24.4 million tonnes of higher-confidence material and 34.6 million tonnes that need more drilling to confirm.
Grades are strong too—about 2% copper equivalent. That means the total metal value in each tonne of rock is equal to 2% copper.
Operational mine with strong infrastructure
The project is already a working underground mine.
It has two access tunnels and over 20 kilometres of old mine development. Infrastructure includes offices, workshops, and a water treatment plant. Green hydro power runs through the site, and a deep-water port just six kilometres away can handle large cargo ships.
FireFly values the existing setup at around A$250 million.
Ongoing underground and regional drilling
Phase 1 of the underground drill drive is complete at 750 metres. Meanwhile. Phase 2 is underway to extend this by another 750 metres. Currently, five underground rigs are active, with a sixth being added soon.
The company is also using geophysical tools to identify new drill targets near the mine. Furthermore, regional work has started, with surface drilling and mapping underway.
Strong funding and cash position
FireFly reported A$84.1 million in cash, receivables, and liquid investments at December 31, 2024.
The company says this provides enough funding to continue drilling and development work through 2025.
Strong Balance Sheet
Forward plan: '5 in 2025' growth drivers
FireFly’s 2025 plan is built around five key goals:
- First, it aims to grow the resource by drilling deeper into both the high-grade zones and broader copper-rich areas.
- Second, it plans to upgrade lower-confidence inferred resources into higher-confidence categories, which are generally more valuable.
- Third, the company is targeting new discoveries.
- Drilling will test potential extensions of the mine, nearby historical workings, and untouched exploration areas.
- Fourth, FireFly sees a chance to build global scale as it advances studies showing Green Bay as a long-life, large-scale mining project.
- Fifth, the company is operating in a tier-one location, with strong infrastructure, renewable energy, and access to government and investor support.
