Sarah Wynn-Williams, a former Meta Platforms Inc (NASDAQ:META, ETR:FB2A, SWX:FB) executive, is set to testify before the US Senate later on Wednesday, alleging that the company undermined American national security while fostering ties with China.
In prepared remarks cited by Bloomberg, Wynn-Williams claims Meta briefed Chinese officials on emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence, as early as 2015, with the aim of helping China surpass US firms.
She suggests these efforts contributed to China’s military AI development, though she does not offer direct evidence.
Meta has strongly denied the allegations, calling them false and unsubstantiated.
Wynn-Williams, who left the company in 2017, recently published a memoir critical of Meta, which has drawn political attention and sparked a congressional inquiry.
