Livium diversifies battery recycling offering through DB Schenker agreement

Livium Ltd’s wholly owned subsidiary Envirostream Australia Pty Ltd, has entered into a battery storage and recycling agreement with global logistics leader Schenker Australia Pty Ltd (DB Schenker).

The deal was effective from April 4, 2025 and grants Livium exclusive rights to process used lithium-ion (Li-ion) batteries for DB Schenker in Australia. It marks a strategic expansion of Livium’s recycling services into complementary, value-adding offerings without the need for additional infrastructure.

The one-year agreement enables Envirostream to provide storage and processing services for both new and used Li-ion batteries and will give the company the opportunity to further broaden its revenue streams and support international battery recycling initiatives.

“We are very pleased to take this first step in expanding our service offer with DB Schenker, an expert in logistics. This Agreement with DB Schenker demonstrates Livium’s ability to deliver blue chip services to major international organisations underpinned by our safety and risk management standards,” Livium CEO and managing director, Simon Linge said.

“There remain many other opportunities with clients to build on our core recycling activities and we look forward to providing these expanded services to DB Schenker whilst seeking to further diversify our recycling service offering with other leading companies.”

Exclusive battery recycling services

DB Schenker will supply new Li-ion batteries to Envirostream for secure storage until a return is requested.

In addition, used batteries will be delivered for storage and recycling at Envirostream’s facilities. Livium has secured exclusive rights to provide these recycling services, reinforcing its position in the national battery recycling sector.

“This agreement with Livium marks a significant milestone for DB Schenker in Australia and New Zealand. Our extensive logistics experience combined with Livium’s recycling technology makes us poised to deliver comprehensive and sustainable solutions for battery storage and recycling across many verticals,” DB Schenker Australia and New Zealand CEO, Craig Davison said.

“We are excited about the opportunities this collaboration will bring and look forward to a successful and impactful partnership.”

Flexible terms with future potential

The partnership allows Livium to deliver a broader range of services adjacent to its core recycling operations, including safe storage of batteries and tolling services for global recycling companies.

These complementary services offer new revenue opportunities without the need for new capital expenditure. However, Livium notes that future expansion could support greater volumes and service capabilities.

The agreement will run for an initial term of one year, although it does not stipulate minimum volumes, meaning the economic impact cannot be determined at this stage. However, the collaboration provides Livium with a foothold in new market segments and reinforces its commitment to circular economy practices within Australia.
