Tuesday's agenda: Vodafone dials in full-year numbers; ICAP reports

Vodafone is the big release of the day, with full-year figures expected tomorrow.

Spread betting company IG Group reckons the markets are anticipating sales for the telecommunications giant to remain relatively robust at £42.1bn, which is only slightly lower than last year’s £43.6bn.

The biggest change, according to IG, will be felt in the company’s full-year pre-tax profits. Having last year posted a loss of £5.2bn, Vodafone is expected to be able to announce a pre-tax profit for the year of £1.9bn.

Investors will be looking out for commentary on possible acquisitions as the telecoms industry consolidates and offers “quad-play” services and comments on BT's planned EE purchase.

JP Morgan has an ‘overweight’ rating on Vodafone and last week said it believes the firm is on the cusp of being able to achieve the ‘holy grail’ of organic revenue, EBITDA and dividend growth.

Elsewhere, institutional brokerage house ICAP will reveal its full-year numbers.

It has been a difficult few years for the company.

In the wake of the credit crisis, the regulators have been introducing tougher new rules in relation to derivative trading, and large investment banks are also trimming back their trading operations.

To add to ICAPS’s problems, the financial markets have relatively low market volatility – large market swings tend to boost volumes in the broking business.

The company has also received bad press when it became entangled in the LIBOR rigging scandal, and it was fined £11 million in February.

IG Group reckons the market is expecting revenue of £1.27bn adjusted and a net income of £178mln. These forecasts represent an 8.6% drop in revenue and an 18% decline in adjusted net profit.
