Ideal Power Inc (NASDAQ:IPWR) announced that it has successfully completed all deliverables for its first solid-state circuit breaker (SSCB) design win, finishing three months ahead of schedule.
The company said the early completion strengthens the company’s partnership with a leading Asian circuit protection equipment manufacturer and positions its B-TRAN semiconductor power switch for broader market adoption.
The collaboration, announced in December 2024, involves integrating B-TRAN technology into SSCB prototypes, replacing silicon carbide (SiC) devices.
Testing showed over a 60% reduction in total losses and added bidirectionality, meeting or exceeding all target specifications.
The upgraded circuit breakers have been shipped to the customer for further testing and early marketing efforts.
Based on the customer's projections, Ideal Power is set to recognize revenue of several hundred thousand dollars in the first year of sales, potentially exceeding $1 million in the second year.
Scalability
The customer plans to expand its B-TRAN-enabled SSCB lineup, with projections suggesting sales could scale to a million units annually.
Future applications may include data centers, electric vehicles, and industrial power systems, marking a significant commercial opportunity for Ideal Power, the company added.
“This customer will be the first to offer an innovative ultra-low loss and inherently bidirectional circuit breaker to a market that has long been waiting for such a solution,” Ideal Power CEO Dan Brdar said in a statement.
“We expect the marketing and successful launch of this B-TRAN-enabled SSCB product to lead to an expanded opportunity with this customer and accelerate engagements and potentially design wins with the large global companies currently evaluating our technology for circuit protection applications.”
The CEO added that any one of these companies could represent millions of dollars or more in annual revenue for Ideal Power over time.
“A few key design wins would be enough to get us to profitability,” Brdar said.
Ideal Power shares moved higher on the update, adding 7.7%.
