Tesla targets Saudi launch after European backlash and China setback

Tesla Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA) is set to launch in Saudi Arabia next month, with an event scheduled in Riyadh on April 10, marking its entry into the Gulf region's largest market.

While Tesla already operates in other Middle Eastern countries, this will be its first foray into the kingdom.

The launch, previewed on the company's site, will showcase electric vehicles, and solar-powered products, and feature demonstrations of autonomous driving and AI technologies, including the Cybercab and Optimus humanoid robot.

The move comes as Tesla faces falling sales in Europe - down 43% this year - despite rising EV adoption across the region. And in China, the group has been usurped by local giant BYD to become the country's largest electric car maker.

The company has also been the focus of protests tied to Elon Musk’s role in government spending cuts, while its shares are off 24% year-to-date.
