Solvonis says European patent approval moves closer for trauma therapy programme

Solvonis Therapeutics PLC (LSE:SVNS) has reported a key step forward in securing European patent protection for the AWKN-SDN-14 programme, a treatment in development for trauma-related mental health disorders such as PTSD.

The European Patent Office has confirmed that claims under Solvonis’ application covering “Therapeutic Aminoindane Compounds and Compositions” are allowable, with only a minor amendment required before formal grant.

The patent covers core compounds being advanced through preclinical development in partnership with Awakn Life Sciences. It forms one of two patent families underpinning the programme and is part of a broader international strategy, with protection also being sought in the US and other major markets.

"This positive news from the European Patent Office is a strong validation of the scientific and commercial potential of the AWKN-SDN-14 programme," said CEO Anthony Tennyson.

"Robust intellectual property is a critical pillar of our and Awakn's strategy, and this progress represents an important step forward as we continue to advance our pipeline toward clinical development across key markets."

The update follows Solvonis’ announcement of preclinical progress and the appointment of Evotec to lead in-vitro testing. The company estimates PTSD affects around 20 million people across the US, UK and Europe, and describes the patent development as a strong validation of its intellectual property position in Europe.
