Genflow Biosciences PLC (LSE:GENF, OTCQB:GENFF), the only longevity-focused biotech listed in Europe, has secured a £434,083 equity investment from a major institution to support its gene therapy research targeting age-related decline in dogs.
The investment, announced on Wednesday, will fund a new clinical trial using Genflow’s proprietary SIRT6 gene therapy in aged animals -marking a significant step in the company’s push to develop treatments aimed at slowing the ageing process.
The funds will be used to accelerate a proof-of-concept study, now underway, testing the safety and efficacy of intravenous SIRT6 gene therapy in dogs aged 10 years and older. The six-month treatment period will be followed by a further six-month evaluation phase.
The randomised, controlled trial involves 28 dogs and is being conducted in partnership with Syngene, a well-known contract research organisation.
Treated animals will be compared with an untreated control group. The trial will track a range of health markers, including biological age (measured via the GRIM methylation clock), muscle mass and strength, mitochondrial function, coat condition and overall well-being.
New shares were issued at 1.05p each and CEO and founder, Eric Leire, is to invest £50,000 in the round.
"As a devoted dog owner myself, I have a nine-year-old golden retriever, I know firsthand the desire we all share for more happy, healthy years of with our beloved pets," said Leire.
"Our goal is not just to extend their lifespan, but to enhance their quality of life. By targeting biological ageing in dogs, we also can unlock groundbreaking insights that could revolutionise both veterinary and human medicine.
"This research has the potential to reshape the way we approach ageing, offering hope for longer, healthier lives for all."
