WH Smith shares rise as refinancing completed, with US investors brought in

WH Smith PLC (LSE:SMWH) shares rose 2% after the retailer completed its £320 million refinancing process, including raising funds from US investors for the first time.

The FTSE 250-listed group raised £200 million in a US private placement and arranged a new £120 million three-year bank loan.

Finance chief Max Izzard says the refinancing "strengthens our balance sheet, extends our debt maturity profile, and diversifies our capital structure.

"It also gives the group access to a new debt investor base in the future, and we are pleased to have the continuing support of our banking partners".
