Solvonis Therapeutics PLC (LSE:SVNS) non-executive director-elect Dr Renata Crome talked with Proactive about her appointment to the board and what she brings to the company.
Dr Crome has an extensive background in pharmaceutical development, having worked at Roche for 30 years. She played a key role in the development of blockbuster treatments such as bevacizumab and obinutuzumab for cancer, as well as Tamiflu for influenza. Following her time at Roche, she transitioned to board roles across commercial and charity organizations and now lectures in pharmaceutical medicine.
Discussing her contributions to Solvonis, Dr Crome highlighted her strategic expertise and experience in central nervous system (CNS) treatments. "I have extensive experience in developing treatments in the central nervous system area, and I know the challenges and some of the solutions," she said. She also emphasized her ability to leverage a strong network of experts to support the company's goals.
Dr Crome expressed enthusiasm for Solvonis' innovative pipeline and differentiated treatments, as well as the strength of its leadership team. "It’s a privilege to be invited to join them," she said.
Proactive: Renata, very good to meet you. You've been appointed as an independent non-executive director. Could you tell us a little bit about your background?
Dr Renata Crome: Yes, of course. I started my career in academic research, working on pioneering heart transplant programs at St Thomas’s Hospital. After that, I joined the pharmaceutical company Roche, where I spent 30 years developing new treatments across multiple therapeutic areas. I had the privilege of leading the development of several blockbuster drugs, including bevacizumab and obinutuzumab for cancer treatment and Tamiflu (oseltamivir) for influenza, among others.
After leaving Roche, I decided to apply my knowledge and expertise in a broader way. I now serve as a board member for multiple organizations, both commercial and charitable. I also lecture in pharmaceutical medicine at a couple of universities, working with undergraduate and postgraduate students.
Proactive: What do you think your experience can contribute to the growth and success of Solvonis Therapeutics PLC?
Dr Renata Crome: I believe I can contribute in two key ways. First, I have extensive experience as a board member, working on strategy development, execution, and making important decisions to ensure the success of organizations.
Second, I have significant experience in developing treatments for central nervous system (CNS) disorders. I understand the challenges in this field and some of the solutions needed to overcome them. Additionally, I have a strong network of experts in CNS research who I can call upon for advice and support.
Proactive: What excites you most about Solvonis Therapeutics? Why did you accept the role?
Dr Renata Crome: Firstly, I love the products that Solvonis Therapeutics is developing. They are highly innovative and well-differentiated from other treatments in the same space.
The other reason I’m excited to join Solvonis is the strength of the team. It’s a highly experienced group of professionals, and it’s a privilege to be invited to join them.
