Tesla Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA) sales in Australia have dropped 35% in the four months since Donald Trump’s election, according to the country’s Electric Vehicle Council.
The decline follows a global sales slump and growing backlash against Elon Musk’s ties to Trump and far-right groups.
In Europe, Tesla has also seen falling sales amid Musk’s political stance.
In Australia and New Zealand, Tesla dealerships and vehicles have been vandalised, with some owners reporting increased hostility.
In Tasmania, a dealership was defaced with anti-Musk graffiti, while a man in New Zealand was arrested for damaging Teslas, according to a Reuters article.
Meanwhile, Trump has vowed to label violence against Tesla as domestic terrorism.
