Ilika achieves a significant milestone with its solid state technology

Ilika PLC (AIM:IKA, OTCQX:ILIKF) has reached a major milestone in its development of solid-state technology, successfully prototyping a 50Ah Goliath battery for electric vehicles.

The breakthrough, achieved as part of the Faraday Battery Challenge HISTORY programme, marks a key step toward commercialising Ilika’s next-generation battery, which aims to lower costs, extend EV range, and reduce charging times.

The prototype follows the company’s recent demonstration of giga-scale manufacturing capabilities at the UK Battery Industrialisation Centre.

This achievement builds on Ilika’s progress in 2024, which included the start of commercial testing, customer shipments of prototype batteries, and the release of validated safety data.

Ilika will now refine the 50Ah battery based on initial testing before launching a build-and-test programme in the second half of 2025.

It expects to release the first optimised units for partner evaluation by the end of next year, bringing it closer to bringing solid-state EV batteries to market.

CEO Graeme Purdy said: "This milestone marks the successful conclusion of a grant-funded collaboration, which has enabled Ilika to prototype large EV batteries in readiness for closer engagement with automotive partners.

"We look forward to securing further support for Goliath commercialisation through the UK government's recent announcement of £2 billion of funding for the electrification of the transport sector."
