UnitedHealth Group Inc ticked up on Tuesday after winning a favourable finding in a long-running case against the Department of Justice over alleged Medicare fraud.
A special master overseeing collection of evidence recommended rejecting the case, in which UnitedHealth is claimed to have overbilled Medicare by at least $2.1 billion.
The Justice Department was “lacking any evidence” to back up claims UnitedHealth failed to return funds received through the Medicare Advantage program, they said.
A judge must now decide whether to adopt the recommendation, which was reported by Bloomberg, to drop the case.
