TSMC poised to unveil new $100bn US investment - reports

Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co is reportedly poised to unveil a $100 billion investment in US chip manufacturing.

According to The Wall Street Journal, the four year plan is set to be unveiled on Monday following a meeting with president Donald Trump.

Funding will go towards building out cutting-edge chip making facilities, the report said, under wider US efforts to buoy production following an exodus to Asia in recent decades.

An additional $100 billion would come after TSMC in April agreed to up a planned investment in the US by $25 billion to $65 billion.

A third factory in Arizona was set to be build by 2030 under the plan, with the previous Biden administration firming up a $6.6 billion government subsidy in November.

“[TSMC looks] forward to discussing our shared vision for innovation and growth in the semiconductor industry, as well as exploring ways to bolster the technology sector along with our customers,” a Reuters-cited statement said.
