Honda Motor (NYSE:HMC) is shifting production of its next-gen Civic hybrid to Indiana, dodging potential US tariffs on North American imports, according to US media reporrts.
The automaker originally planned to build the model in Mexico starting in 2027.
Now, production will kick off in Indiana in May 2028, targeting 210,000 units annually, sources were cited as saying.
Honda hasn’t confirmed the move, but it comes as automakers brace for Trump’s proposed 25% tariffs on goods from Mexico and Canada.
The company has previously warned that long-term tariffs could force a major supply chain rethink.
Mexico has been a cost-friendly hub for global automakers, but keeping production stateside could help Honda avoid steep cost hikes and secure its US market position.
