Graphene Manufacturing Group Ltd (TSX-V:GMG, OTCQX:GMGMF) is making progress on its next-generation graphene aluminium-ion battery, bringing it closer to commercial production.
The company has partnered with the world-leading Battery Innovation Center (BIC) in Indiana, in the US, to accelerate development, avoiding the need to build an expensive pilot plant.
Instead, GMG will use BIC’s advanced manufacturing facilities to refine and scale up its battery technology.
GMG’s aluminium-ion battery is designed to offer a more sustainable and potentially more powerful alternative to lithium-ion batteries.
The company has already achieved a key milestone, producing battery cells with a capacity of 1000 mAh. The next step is to optimise performance and prepare for large-scale production.
Unlike traditional lithium-ion batteries, GMG’s battery uses graphene and aluminium, which are more abundant and environmentally friendly materials. The company believes this could lead to better energy storage solutions with faster charging times, higher power density, and improved safety.
As part of its development strategy, GMG is conducting intensive testing, adjusting key components such as electrode materials and charging processes to improve efficiency.
The company follows a structured optimisation process, testing multiple designs each week to identify the best-performing configurations.
Following successful trials at BIC, GMG plans to move towards full-scale commercial production.
The company has received interest from major global players, including Rio Tinto, which is supporting the project under a joint development agreement.
With demand for advanced batteries growing rapidly across electric vehicles, consumer electronics, and industrial applications, GMG’s breakthrough could position it as a key player in the future energy market. The company remains confident that its battery technology will be ready for mass production in the coming years.
