Tesla Inc rivals XPeng Inc and BYD Co have unveiled a surge in electric vehicle sales for last month despite a typically tepid start to the year.
BYD at the weekend said some 322,846 EVs had been sold over the month, reflecting a 7.4% increase on January and near-164% jump year on year.
Start-up XPeng said 30,453 electric cars had been delivered in the meantime, marking a slight improvement against January but a 570% surge compared to a year earlier.
The former has tussled with Elon Musk’s Tesla for the spot as the world’s largest EV maker as wider competition escalates in the Chinese market.
Tesla’s monthly figures have yet to be released, with other rivals having pointed to a more muted month as they grappled for market share.
NIO Inc unveiled a 4.8% drop in sales between January and February to 13,192, though this was up 62.2% against a year earlier.
Li Auto saw deliveries slip by 12.2% month on month to 26,263 EVs meanwhile, leaving sales up 9.3% against February 2024.
