Pets at Home Group PLC (LSE:PETS) scampered 14% higher on Wednesday on the back of takeover rumours, though the shares curled up for a rest by mid-afternoon.
The pet supplies and veterinary services chain was the subject of takeover rumours in the City, with private equity mentioned.
A report on the Financial News website noted that a potential bid vehicle named Pug Bidco Ltd was registered at the same address as buyout firm BC Partners, with directors sharing a name too.
While BC bought US retailer PetSmart in 2014, a source told Financial News that Pets at Home was not the target.
