Livium secures exclusive lithium-ion battery recycling agreement with ZECO Energy

Livium Ltd has signed an exclusive five-year recycling agreement with ZECO Energy Pty Ltd to manage the recycling of lithium-ion batteries from ZECO’s network.

Under the deal, Livium’s wholly owned subsidiary, Envirostream Australia Pty Ltd, will handle end-of-life residential and commercial energy storage system (ESS) battery packs supplied by ZECO Energy.

The agreement with ZECO, a provider of sustainable energy solutions for residential and commercial markets, began on February 19, 2025, and will run for an initial five-year term with an optional three-year extension.

Livium will receive processing fees for sorting and recycling ZECO’s batteries along with additional revenue from services such as battery dismantling, discharging and transport.

While the agreement is exclusive, there are no minimum volume commitments and Livium is not yet able to quantify its financial impact.

Committed to circular economy

"By collaborating with ZECO Energy, we are reinforcing our commitment to a circular economy for energy storage. This partnership ensures that end-of-life batteries are repurposed responsibly, supporting both environmental and industry sustainability,” Livium CEO and managing director, Simon Linge said.

“Building out the network of sources of end-of-life batteries gives us the confidence to scale our recycling business which will allow us to service more markets.

“We thank ZECO Energy for their partnership and confidence in our capabilities to enter into this five-year contract. We look forward to working with them closely."

Responsible battery management

ZECO Energy, which supplies battery systems from brands including Tesla and Samsung SDI, serves more than 40,000 active customers. The agreement reinforces its focus on responsible battery management by ensuring a sustainable and structured recycling process.

“ZECO Energy is all about sustainability and responsible product cycle management. Teaming up with Livium takes that to the next level,” ZECO Energy director Jag Makam said.

“By partnering with a top player in battery recycling, we are making sure our energy management solutions are handled responsibly from start to finish. This collaboration doesn’t just show our commitment, it raises the bar for energy solutions in Australia. Bonus – Livium has its team and facilities right here in Melbourne!”

For Livium, the agreement aligns with its strategy to secure exclusive battery recycling contracts and diversify its supply sources. In addition to ESS batteries, the company is expanding its recycling footprint across other sectors, including e-mobility and electric vehicles (EVs).

This latest partnership complements Livium’s existing battery recycling agreements and supports the company’s long-term growth in the circular economy.
