Jet2 PLC’s warning on Wednesday of mounting costs saw peers lose altitude across the board as investors mulled pressure on airlines ahead.
Shares in the AIM-listed operator tumbled 10.5% after it flagged profit margins could be squeezed over the coming year.
easyJet PLC and British Airways owner International Consolidated Airlines Group SA dropped 4.4% and 2.1% respectively in turn on the read-across.
Wizz Air Holdings PLC shed 4.2% in the meantime, as Ryanair Holdings PLC fell 2.1%.
Jet2 had cited delays in plane deliveries from Airbus Group, alongside cost pressures linked to the likes of accommodation, maintenance and airport charges.
Looming national insurance and wage hikes were also flagged, while a mandated increase in the use of sustainable aviation fuel to make up 2% of loads was set hit too.
Aside from growing costs, Peel hunt analysts pointed to caution around demand, with Jet2 having also unveiled a lower average load factor for the most recent winter season.
Though pricing was said to have remained competitive, Panmure Liberum noted “downward pressure on consensus” expectations was likely ahead.
“Travel stocks have enjoyed a real time in the sun over recent years but there is recent evidence that the good times might be on their way out,” AJ Bell’s Laith Khalaf added.
