Tesla Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA) has begun hiring for various positions in India, signalling its intention to enter the country’s electric vehicle market following a meeting between CEO Elon Musk and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the United States.
Per Tesla’s website, the company is hiring for 13 job openings in India, primarily in Mumbai, covering various roles such as customer service, sales, and operations.
Positions include Service Advisor, Tesla Advisor, Business Operations Analyst, and Store Manager, indicating plans for both sales and service operations.
Additionally, Tesla has reportedly finalized locations for showrooms in New Delhi and Mumbai, further indicating its imminent entry into the Indian market.
India's recent reduction of import duties on high-end EVs from 110% to 70% for vehicles priced above $40,000 has created a more favorable environment for Tesla's entry.
The country’s EV market, while still emerging compared to larger markets like China, offers considerable growth potential driven by increasing consumer interest in sustainable transportation and government efforts to cut carbon emissions.
Tesla shares were flat late morning on Tuesday, trading hands at about $356. It has gained almost 84% in the last 12 months.
