Plus500 hit by profit taking despite pledging $200m of new buybacks and dividends

Shares in Plus500 Ltd (LSE:PLUS) retreated another 3.8% from recent all-time highs as final results landed in line with guidance given last month, with the online broker pledging to return a further $200 million to shareholders via a share buyback and dividends.

Revenue grew by 6% year-on-year to $768.3 million, of which trading income was up 6% to $711.6 million and interest income by 9% to cover the remainder.

The FTSE 250-listed company highlighted that share dealing and other business other than its original over-the-counter (OTC) contracts-for-difference offering contributed approximately 10% of total revenue and approximately 15% of total new customers, "highlighting the growing importance of this business to the continued success and future direction of the group".

Underlying profit (EBITDA) increased 1% to $342 million.

With net cash of $890 million at the end of December, a buyback of $110 million was announced, along with a final dividend of $29.6 million and a special dividend of $60.4 million, representing $0.4025 and $0.8213 per share respectively and equating to a total dividend for the year of $1.2238.

Chief executive David Zruia said the performance in 2024 was "driven by our market-leading proprietary technology, our international brand recognition, and our robust operating fundamentals", with proprietary marketing technology used to increase customer acquisition by 30% over the year, with active customers up 9% to 254,138 in the period.

He highlighted that since a strategy update in September 2022, the company has "evolved from being a single product provider into a market-leading, multi-asset fintech group".

The outlook noted confidence from the board about future prospects and strategic direction, whilst stating that current trading was in line with market expectations.

For 2025, analysts expected EBITDA of $331 million.
