Vitality has become the first UK health insurer to offer discounted weight loss treatments for up to a year through its health cover.
Members can access up to 20% off popular anti-obesity drugs such as Wegovy and Mounjaro, depending on their body mass index (BMI) and weight-related health risks.
Eligible customers can apply via the Vitality app, where those with a BMI of 35 or higher can access a new medication pathway.
This includes dietitian support and discounted medication for up to 12 months. The initiative builds on Vitality’s existing weight loss programme, which rewards members for healthier lifestyles. Nearly half of enrolled users have already achieved around 5% weight loss.
Demand for anti-obesity drugs is surging, but they remain expensive. Wegovy starts at £139 per month, while Mounjaro costs up to £1,435 per year. These medications have proven effective in reducing body weight and lowering risks of heart disease and diabetes.
