FTSE 100 pulls back from new record; Entain, Bellway and housebuilders sag - Market Report

London's FTSE 100 has pulled back after reaching a new record in early trade.

The blue chip index was down just a few points at 8,765 shortly after 9am.

Engineer Intertek, credit checker Experian and defence group BAE Systems are the leading early risers.

On the downside, Ladbrokes owner Entain fell 10% as its CEO stepped down only five months after starting.

Housebuilders Persimmon, Barratt Redrow, Taylor Wimpey and Berkeley are all down as mid-cap rival Bellway's half-year update failed to impress.

And after opening slightly higher, BP has also dipped into the red despite releasing results that look mostly better than expected, with its remaining $1.75 billion quarterly buyback still in place.

The oil giant said it intends to review buybacks and capex as part of its strategy update later this month.
