A computer engineer who lost £620 million worth of Bitcoin is reportedly still hoping to recover it from a landfill in Newport.
According to media outlets, James Howells wants to buy the rubbish tip where he thinks a discarded hard drive is buried.
His ex-girlfriend accidentally threw away a the device containing 8,000 bitcoins in 2013.
Howells recently sued Newport City Council to gain access to the site or receive £495 million in compensation, but a judge dismissed the case.
The council, which plans to close the landfill in 2025-26 to build a solar farm, has not commented.
Howells expressed surprise at the timing, noting that the council had previously argued in court that shutting the landfill for his search would severely impact residents—yet it was already planning to close the site.
