Google has scrapped its diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) recruitment targets, becoming the latest major U.S. company to scale back such initiatives. The decision follows an annual corporate policy review, with the tech giant also reassessing other DEI programmes.
A spokesperson for the Alphabet Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG) owned tech giant told media outlets the company remains committed to equal opportunities but has updated its investor report language to reflect recent court rulings and federal orders.
The move comes after US President Donald Trump’s administration ordered government agencies to eliminate DEI programmes.
Previously, Google aimed to increase leadership diversity by 30% over five years. Between 2020 and 2024, Black leadership representation nearly doubled, while female and Latino representation also improved.
Other major firms, including Meta, Amazon, and Walmart, have recently scaled back DEI commitments, though Apple has resisted pressure to do the same.
