Market report: ASX set to gain as Materials surge

The ASX 200 is expected to close approximately 0.5% higher at 8,417 points on Wednesday, February 5.

Over the past five days, the index has declined by 0.35% and remains 1.75% below its 52-week high.

The top-performing stock of the day was Clarity Pharmaceuticals, which rose by $0.34, or nearly 10%, to $3.90 per share. In contrast, Block experienced the largest decline, dropping by almost 4% to $139.53 per share.

Among market sectors, eight recorded gains. The Materials sector led with a 1.73% increase, followed by Information Technology, which rose 1.53%. Health Care was the weakest performer, falling by 0.6%.
