Aston Martin follows European peers lower as US tariffs brew

Aston Martin Lagonda Global Holdings PLC tumbled in line with European counterparts on Monday as investors fled in response to threats of tariffs under Donald Trump.

Trump on Sunday said tariffs would “definitely” stretch to the European Union after he confirmed levies on Canadian, Mexican and Chinese imports.

“They take almost nothing and we take everything from them,” he said, citing “millions of cars” imported from the continent across the Atlantic.

Volkswagen AG and Chrysler owner Stellantis NV were among European carmakers to tumble as a result, falling by 5.7% and 6.1% respectively.

Volvo, BMW and Porsche were also among firms to face declines on Monday.

A softer approach appeared to be taken to the UK though, where Trump said issues could be “worked out,” despite it being “out of line”.

UK-based Aston Martin failed to avoid pressure though, dropping 4.0% as Jaguar Land Rover owner Tata Motors Ltd also fell 2.7%.
