OpenAI has introduced "deep research", an AI tool designed to handle complex online analysis and fact-finding tasks.
Powered by a version of its upcoming o3 model, the tool can browse the web, analyse data, and compile detailed reports.
Users provide a prompt, and ChatGPT searches multiple sources, including text, images, and PDFs, to generate a report comparable to human research analysts. OpenAI claims the tool can complete tasks in minutes that would take hours manually.
The company acknowledged that deep research is still developing and may struggle to distinguish reliable sources from misinformation.
It is available on the web version of ChatGPT from Sunday, with mobile and desktop rollouts planned for February.
This follows OpenAI’s January launch of Operator, an AI tool for task management.
