Nvidia Corp (NASDAQ:NVDA, ETR:NVD) has approved a version of Samsung Electronics (KRX:005930)’s memory chips for AI applications, per a Bloomberg report.
The publication, citing sources with knowledge of the matter, reported that Samsung has been approve to supply 8-layer HBM3E high-bandwidth memory chips to Nvidia.
These chips, less advanced than the 12-layer version, are reportedly intended for Nvidia’s less powerful AI processors, particularly those tailored for the Chinese market.
The approval is a positive develop for Samsung, which has striving to close the gap with SK Hynix. The 8-layer HBM3E chips that Samsung is supplying are not as advanced as SK Hynix's 12-layer HBM3E chips, which are utilized in Nvidia's most sophisticated AI processors, particularly in the upcoming Blackwell series.
Nvidia and Samsung have not commented on the report.
