SoftBank reportedly in talks to invest up to $25B in OpenAI

Japanese investment group SoftBank is reportedly in talks to invest up to $25 billion in OpenAI, the AI startup behind ChatGPT.

Per a Financial Times report, SoftBank is considering investing between $15 billion and $25 billion in OpenAI.

This would position SoftBank as OpenAI’s largest investor, surpassing Microsoft’s previous investments.

The potential deal is part of a broader strategy that includes a commitment to the Stargate Project, a massive initiative announced by US President Donald Trump last week that aims to build AI infrastructure in the US with an estimated total investment of up to $500 billion over four years.

The publication said SoftBank’s equity investment would cover its commitment to Stargate.
