Nvidia Corp (NASDAQ:NVDA, ETR:NVD) shares fell on Wednesday on the back of reports that the White House is examining further tightening of controls on chip exports to China.
The Trump administration is mulling deeper curbs on the sale of the semiconductor company's H20 chips, Bloomberg reported.
Plans are at very early stages, the source for the article stressed, with any potential move not likely for some time.
Nvidia's H20 chips are among those that Chinese AI startup DeepSeek said it used to train its new large language model, the launch of which last week led to turmoil among US tech stocks at the start of this week.
DeepSeek stated that it used the less powerful H800 and H20 chips, which were allowed under previous US chip curbs but can still be used to develop AI.
An Nvidia spokesperson told media the company "is ready to work with the administration as it pursues its own approach to AI".
