Apple Inc (NASDAQ:AAPL, ETR:APC) has reportedly collaborated with SpaceX and T-Mobile US Inc (NASDAQ:TMUS, ETR:TM5) to integrate Starlink satellite connectivity into its iPhones through its latest software update.
Per a Bloomberg report, the integration allows iPhones running iOS 18.3 to connect directly to SpaceX's Starlink satellites when traditional cellular coverage is unavailable.
This follows an earlier partnership with Globalstar, which enabled emergency SOS features through satellite communication starting with the iPhone 14 in 2022.
Unlike this partnership, which requires users to manually point their devices at the satellite, Starlink's system is designed to work automatically.
For the launch, Apple has teamed up with T-Mobile, and the service is currently in Beta. Customers can reportedly enroll to access an early version of Starlink on select iPhone models.
