Nasdaq Inc shares fall on earnings but CEO hails 'transformational year'

Shares in Nasdaq Inc (NASDAQ:NDAQ) fell over 4% in early trading after the New York exchange operator reported its own earnings.

"2024 was a transformative year for Nasdaq," said chair and CEO Adena Friedman, with the integration of AxiomSL and Calypso into its Financial Technology division.

These acquisitions are part of the group's plan to become a "scalable platform company", with Friedman hailing strategic progress in cross-sell opportunities and expanding client relationships.

"Looking to 2025, we are well positioned to provide more value to our clients while driving profitable and durable growth as the trusted fabric of the world’s financial system," she said.

CFO Sarah Youngwood said Nasdaq is "tracking ahead of schedule" on its deleveraging and cost synergy targets.

Revenue for the fourth quarter of 2024 came in at $1.2 billion, up 10% from a year earlier, with annualized recurring revenue of $2.8 billion, an increase of 7%.

For the 2024 net revenues came to $4.6 billion, up 9% on an adjusted basis.

Revenue from the Financial Technology arm rose 10% for the fourth quarter to $438 million and Index revenue was up 29% to $188 million, with $80 billion of net inflows over the trailing twelve months and $28 billion in the fourth quarter.

Diluted earnings per share fell 7% after growth of 72% in the fourth quarter, while adjusted EPS was flat in 2024 after growing 5% in the fourth quarter, or 10% on an organic basis.
