Alibaba Group (NYSE:BABA) has introduced its latest artificial intelligence model, Qwen2.5-Max, asserting that it outperforms competitors such as OpenAI’s GPT-4o, DeepSeek-V3, and Meta’s Llama-3.1.
Launched on the Alibaba Cloud Bailian platform, the model is accessible to developers through a new interactive chat tool.
The Chinese e-commerce giant claims Qwen2.5-Max surpasses DeepSeek-V3 on key benchmarks, including Arena-Hard, LiveBench, LiveCodeBench, and MMLU-Pro.
It is also said to rival Anthropic’s Claude-3.5-Sonnet while outperforming major U.S. models.
The launch follows the debut of DeepSeek’s R1 model, which raised concerns over the sustainability of massive AI infrastructure investments.
The emergence of cost-efficient Chinese AI models contributed to a $1 trillion sell-off in U.S. tech stocks, particularly impacting Nvidia. Investors now question the long-term demand for high-end AI chips from major firms like Microsoft and Meta.
