The debate over working from home rages on with two hundred companies said now to have adopted the concept permanently across numerous sectors.
Data from the 4 Day Week Foundation, said the companies collectively employ more than 5,000 people, marketing, and technology firms the most prominent of the for-profits outfits.
The idea is that by working fewer days with no loss of pay, people work smarter and harder.
Joe Ryle, campaign director of the 4 Day Week Foundation, said the nine-to-five, five-day work week was “no longer fit for purpose.”
“With 50% more free time, a four-day week gives people the freedom to live happier, more fulfilling lives,” he said.
London-based companies account for 59 of the 200 firms, followed by 27 in South East England and 25 in Scotland.
The report came as the CBI reported businesses are planning to axe staff and hike prices to weather an anticipated slowdown across the economy.
According to the business lobby group, private sector bosses were forecasting a “significant slowdown” in activity over the coming three months.
