Power Nickel Inc (TSX-V:PNPN, OTCQB:PNPNF) has announced a new discovery located 700 metres east of the Lion Zone at its Nisk polymetallic project in Quebec, which will form part of its upcoming drilling campaign.
In late 2024 the company tested a weak electromagnetic (EM) target similar to the one found over the Lion Zone. Initial drilling in the area revealed weak copper mineralization, but subsequent borehole surveys identified an off-hole anomaly that led to the intersection of massive sulphides.
The deposit is hosted in a “usual rock group” felsic gneisses, a third distinct deposit type in the area, the company highlighted.
Assay results are expected soon to characterize the find further, Power Nickel said.
This area will be another focus of the company’s 2025 drilling campaign, for which Power Nickel plans to deploy three drills by mid-February.
The initial drill will focus on extending the depth and strike of the Lion Zone, while the others target untested sections of the ultramafic strike, including a 5.5-kilometre stretch between the Nisk and Lion zones.
To enhance exploration efficiency, Power Nickel has engaged a geophysicist to analyze 2024 borehole and ground EM surveys to identify new drill targets for the 2025 campaign.
Drilling last year at Nisk identified deposits resembling copper-rich formations seen in major nickel camps like Norilsk and Sudbury.
The coexistence of nickel-copper and copper-precious metal deposits within the same ultramafic unit suggests significant potential for discovering additional, larger deposits in the area, Power Nickel believes.
