CNN has unveiled plans to cut 210 jobs under wider efforts to modernize its operations around a global digital audience.
Equating to around 6% of the Warner Bros Discovery Inc (NASDAQ:WBD, ETR:J5A)-owned business' headcount, reductions were announced in a staff memo on Thursday.
“I know that whatever the total number of job losses, the impact on the individuals involved can be immense,” chief executive Mark Thompson wrote.
“The process of change is essential if we’re to thrive in the future, but I both acknowledge and regret its very real human consequences.”
Thompson added headcount wasn’t expected to be reduced “much” this year, given plans for US$70 million in digital investment.
CNN has sought to rearrange its linear television operations and ramp up digital subscription offerings.
Cuts would help lower production costs as teams were consolidated, according to a CNBC-cited source.
