Ocean Power Technologies Inc (NYSE-A:OPTT) has announced a successful multi-day demonstration of its WAM-V autonomous maritime surface vehicle in California.
Equipped with a complete seabed survey payload, the WAM-V 22 completed a major set of offshore exercises over several days without needing to return to base.
Chief executive Philipp Stratmann noted the demonstration marked a “groundbreaking milestone” for the company.
“The technological capabilities of our WAM-Vs can now be deployed for multiple days in over-the-horizon operations,” he pointed out.
Ocean Power Technologies added multi-day operational capability means vehicles could host an array of offshore instrumentation for longer and with greater persistence at sea.
“Having previously demonstrated the ability to deploy for multiple days, the recently implemented design changes now enable full operations over extended time periods,” Stratmann said.
“This opens up entirely new operating approaches for our customers, leading to enhanced efficiencies and opening up new markets for OPT.”
