Costco Wholesale Corporation workers have voted in favour of nationwide strike action as a deadline on discussions over new contracts approaches.
Union Teamsters said on Sunday that 85% of its members from Costco had opted to authorize strike action.
“The vote is a direct result of the company’s continued failure to bargain constructively,” it said in an X post.
A final round of talks was due to begin on Monday, Teamsters added, before a deadline on January 31 to reach an agreement.
Teamsters, which represents some 18,000 Costco workers, noted members wanted “fair wages and benefits” from the wholesale giant.
“From day one, we've told Costco that our members won't work a day past January 31 without a historic, industry-leading agreement,” Teamsters general president Sean M. O'Brien said.
“Costco's greedy executives have less than two weeks to do the right thing. If they refuse, they'll have no one to blame but themselves when our members go on strike.”
