Changes might be on the way to help mortgage refinancing become simpler while the limit on contactless transactions is also set to rise.
A letter from the FCA to the government suggested the agency can work towards removing some of the hurdles to getting a mortgage to boost the UK economy.
Nikhil Rathi, FCA chief executive, said this could see amendments to responsible lending and advice rules for mortgages and starting a discussion on the balance between access to lending and levels of defaults.
Areas where there are overlapping regulations such as the Mortgage Charter, which supports borrowers needing financial assistance that often are offered separately by the lender.
Rathi added that the regulator the £100 contactless limit might also be raised to “level the playing field” with digital wallets”.
Electronic verification of death to speed up bereavement claims and approving start-ups more quickly were other avenues that the FCA would explore, said the letter.
