Electric and hybrid vehicle sales accounted for 20% of all new vehicle sales in the United States in 2024, according to a report from Motor Intelligence.
According to the auto data firm, over 3.2 million electrified vehicles were sold in the US last year.
This includes approximately 1.9 million hybrid vehicles, including plug-in hybrids, and about 1.3 million fully battery electric vehicles.
Gasoline and diesel-powered vehicles, while still the majority, saw their market share decline to 79.8%, marking the first time this figure has dipped below 80% in modern automotive history.
Tesla Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA) continued to lead the electric vehicle market, despite a slight decrease in its annual sales, resulting in a market share of about 49%, according to estimates from Cox Automotive.
Following Tesla were Hyundai including Kia with 9.3%, General Motors (NYSE:GM) at 8.7%, Ford Motor (NYSE:F) with 7.5%, and BMW at 4.1%.
