Nintendo announces Switch 2 console 'hands-on' tour but no launch date

Nintendo has confirmed that its successor to the hugely successful Switch console will launch this year.

Ahead of the full launch, there will be a Switch 2 hands-on tour that will see the new console available for the public to play from April through to June.

"Tickets will be made available through a free-to-enter, randomly selected draw," Nintendo announced today through a YouTube video (watch here)

However, no price or exact launch date was revealed by the Japanese giant.

Nintendo launched the original Switch in 2017, proving an instant hit with its hybrid capability that allowed users to carry it around and play at home via detachable screens, controls and docking devices.

Indications from the trailer are that the screens and controllers will be larger, with the ability to run many games from the original model though not all.

Nintendo has scheduled a live screening event to give more details on Wednesday 2 April.
