IG Group Holdings Plc (LSE:IGG) has announced the acquisition of Freetrade, a commission-free investment platform, for £160m.
The deal, funded through IG’s existing capital, will enhance its UK trading and investment offerings and broaden its market reach.
Breon Corcoran, IG’s chief executive, called the move a rare chance to strengthen the company’s position, citing Freetrade’s scalable technology and rapid growth.
Launched in 2018, Freetrade has gained 720,000 customers and £2.5bn in assets under administration by offering access to global stocks, ISAs, SIPPs, and more.
In 2024, it reported revenues of £27.5m, achieving positive EBITDA for the first time.
Freetrade will remain a standalone business under its current leadership, with IG investing in its growth and product development.
The transaction is expected to complete by mid-2025, subject to regulatory approval.
