Lloyds Banking Group PLC (LSE:LLOY) has said it is cutting a regional office in Scotland just hours after announcing its office in Speke is to shut with around 500 staff having to relocate or work remotely.
The bank's Dunfermline office employs around 1,500 staff who will be asked to either work from home or relocate to Edinburgh.
According to the bank, some roles will be removed, while new ones will be created by the process with the final total of jobs at risk to be decided after a selection process.
A spokeswoman for Lloyds told PA: “To achieve the ambitious strategy we launched in February 2022 and deliver a better service to our customers, we are transforming our business.
Earlier Lloyds said it would close its Speke, Liverpool, office as part of ongoing plans to have “fewer, better-equipped” offices to reduce costs.
No jobs will be cut directly as part of the closure part of the closure but some 420 workers will be asked to relocate to Chester with the rest to work remotely.
A Lloyds spokesman told PA: “In line with our commitment to enhancing our property estate, we are creating fewer, better-equipped, modern and sustainable offices to suit the future of our business.
“As part of this, we are building hubs and communities in key locations across the UK to help deliver on our strategy.”
Lloyds has been trimming its branch network for years and this month said customers of its main subsidiaries - Lloyds, Halifax and Bank of Scotland – can use the branches of any of its brands for personal banking.
Union officials said the plan to shut the Speke office was a “huge mistake," adding that up to 1,300 roles were being put up for review within its consumer relationships divisions.
Shares in Lloyds rose 5% to 56.32p.
