Ryanair Holdings PLC (LSE:RYA) has again called for a limit to be imposed on drinking at airport bars to stop what it says are growing incidences of unruly behaviour by drunk passengers.
Michael O’Leary, chief executive, last year said that a two-drink limit would create "a safer travel experience for passengers and crews".
Last week, the Irish airline sued a passenger for costs after a flight was diverted by his alleged disruptive behaviour.
In its first civil action against a passenger, Ryanair said it wanted €15,000 in damages after the flight from Dublin to Lanzarote was diverted to Porto
Renewing its call today for a limit to be imposed, a Ryanair spokesperson blamed European governments for lack of action.
“Airlines like Ryanair already restrict and limit the sale of alcohol on board our aircraft, particularly in disruptive passenger cases.
"However, during flight delays, passengers are consuming excess alcohol at airports without any limit on purchase or consumption.
“We fail to understand why passengers at airports are not limited to two alcoholic drinks.”
