Vauxhall owner Stellantis NV (NYSE:STLA, EPA:STLA) met the UK government’s 2024 electric vehicle (EV) sales mandate despite criticising the policy and announcing the closure of its Luton factory.
The company, the UK’s top electric van seller in 2024, reported a 59% year-on-year increase in EV sales, with 39,492 electric cars and 7,821 electric vans sold.
Stellantis has called the zero-emission vehicle (ZEV) mandate "out of step with demand", urging more government support for consumers.
The policy requires 22% of new vehicle sales to be electric, rising to 100% by 2035. While opposition persists, advocates say the targets are driving EV adoption.
The government has pledged £2.3 billion to support the transition to zero-emission vehicles.
