Northstar Gold Corp. (CSE:NSG) announced that it has completed a seven-hole, 1,465-meter diamond drilling campaign at its Miller copper-gold project, located near Kirkland Lake, Ontario.
The program targeted near-surface copper-gold-silver volcanogenic massive sulphide (VMS) mineralization along a 1,000-meter southeast extension of the historic Cam Copper Mine.
The company expects to start reporting preliminary drill results from the program later this month.
It highlighted the program’s discovery of a new copper zone, located 500 meters southeast of the Cam Copper Mine.
A drill hole returned near-surface chalcopyrite mineralization over 15.76 meters, associated with gabbro intrusive contacts and bedded tuffs.
The mineralization lies 45 meters below and 20 meters along strike from a historic trench with massive chalcopyrite and bornite, previously assayed at 17.9% copper and 16.2 grams per ton (g/t) silver.
While assay results for the drill hole are pending, Northstar believes the visual assessment suggests significant potential for further exploration.
Nearly all drill holes in the 2024 program encountered bands of massive to semi-massive sulphide mineralization near altered gabbro intrusions, highlighting the importance of these geological features as a source for VMS mineralization the company added.
This discovery, along with re-logged data from 2023, indicates that the copper-rich Zone 2 lens and its underlying gabbro body extend further along strike and at depth.
Northstar plans to build on these results with additional magnetic surveys, geochemical studies, and drilling in 2025.
