Ilika PLC (AIM:IKA, OTCQX:ILIKF) told investors it has successfully commissioned its Stereax micro-battery manufacturing equipment at Cirtec Medical’s facility in Massachusetts, USA.
Production of Stereax batteries for process qualification has begun, following successful User Acceptance Tests (UATs), the company said.
It moves the battery technology developer closer to a commercial breathrough, for its small solid state batteries platform which are designed to help revolutionise miniature, implantable medical device technologies.
"We are delighted to announce that Stereax is now one step closer towards starting production and enabling its deployment into miniature active medical devices,” Ilika chief executive Graeme Purdy said in a statement.
“We thank Cirtec and Ilika colleagues for their effort into completing the transfer of Stereax production equipment to the Lowell facilities."
Brian Highley, Cirtec Medical chief executive, meanwhile, commented: "We are delighted to announce that Stereax is now one step closer towards starting production and enabling its deployment into miniature active medical devices.”
Since June, Ilika has been supplying cathode-coated wafers to Cirtec to refine and verify subsequent process steps.
Ilika and Cirtec entered a ten-year manufacturing license agreement in August 2023.
The collaboration enables Cirtec to produce Stereax batteries, while Ilika retains responsibility for advanced technology development and IP licensing.
